Alice Mae Christian Ellis was born as a twin on July 4, 1936 in Raymond, MS to the late Lazarus “Bossie” Christian, Jr. and Georgia Hudson Christian Marshall. A true firecracker in both spirit and birth, Alice brought joy, strength, and light to everyone blessed to know her.
Alice accepted Christ at an early age and became a devoted member of Belmont M. B. Church, where she found joy in singing in the choir. She later married Booker T. Ellis, Sr. and together they shared the blessing of raising seven children.
She was a woman who delighted in life’s simple pleasures-fishing on quiet days, lifting her voice in worship, and playing with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Her love for family was the heartbeat of her life. Whether she was preparing a meal, sharing a laugh, or cheering from the stands, per presence was a comfort and her joy was infectious.
A proud and faithful supporter of local sports, Alice was a familiar face at basketball games and had a deep, lifelong love for softball. Known affectionately throughout the community as “Granny”, Alice helped raise not only her own children, but countless others. Her home was always open, her hugs were healing, and her love knew no limits.
On June 3, 2025, Alice peacefully departed this life. He was preceded in death by her husband, Booker T. Ellis, Sr.; her brothers, Excel (Susie) Christian, Charlie Christian, Lee Earl (Ida) Christian,, Alan J. Christian, Robert Hal Christian, Charles Christian and Willie James Christian’ her sisters, Gertrude Christian, Etta Mae (James) Christian Johnson, Leola (Lamar) Christian Ellis, Ethel Mae (Charlie) Christian Weathersby, and Thelma (Roy) Christian Johnson; a bonus son, Larry Milton Johnson; a bonus sister, Bertha Mae King; and a special grandchild, Corey Bias.
She leaves to cherish her memories her beloved sisters, Fannie (Earnest) Ree Christian Scott and Minnie Pearl Christian Johnson, both of Raymond, MS and Doris Christian Johnson of Detroit, MI. Her children include Shirley Ellis, Annie Ellis, Booker T. (Vicki) Ellis, Jr., Leonard Ellis, Cassandra (James) Christian, Betty Ellis and Marcus (Stephanie) Ellis. She is also survived by 23 grandchildren, 35 great grandchildren, all of whom she adored and spent countless cherished moments with. Her memory is also held dear by a special friend, Eloise Hutton, four special children, Andrew Wells, Iris Clark, Rita Collins Willis and Willie Frank Robinson; her devoted sister-in-law, Novlla Ellis Lawson, and four special grandchildren, Adrian (A.D.) Wallace, Gerald “Peanut” Seaton, Geric Anderson, and Tony Kimble.
Alice Mae Ellis lived a life rich in faith, full of love, laughter, and left a lasting legacy. He was the heart of her family and a pillar in her community. Her light will continue to shine through the lies she touched, the love she gave and the memories she created.
