Dorothy Jones

d. June 1, 2016

On January 14, 1932, God blessed Rudolph and Mary Gerlean Tillman with a precious baby girl that would plant wisdom and love in the lives of many. Dorothy’s journey began in Jackson, MS. As the oldest of four siblings, her childhood was filled with memories of hard work, joy, fun, laughter, and love. She loved to read, write, and talk.

At an early age, Dorothy accepted Jesus Christ and her faith grew through the years as she was a strong follower of Jesus that enjoyed sharing the word of God with others. She served as a member of the Berean Seventh Day Adventist Church and after the death of her husband in July 2011 was under the care of the Greater New Jerusalem M. B. Church family.

She attended Smith Robertson School and later graduated from Lanier High School in 1949.  She loved Lanier High School and could often be heard singing her alma mater, “Dear Lanier”.

She was united in holy matrimony with Steve Jones on October 28, 1950. They were later blessed with two boys, Steve, “Man” and Roy, “Bubba.” She loved to cook and care for others and found great joy in being a housewife devoted to her husband, sons, and family.

She lives to cherish her memories her two sons, Steve (Lynda) Jones III, and Roy “Bubba” L. (Ivy) Jones, nephew-son; Willie Earl (PM) Ross, grandchildren; Jabari and Jamila Jones, Teresa (Quincy)Robinson, Ganah Barnes-McInnis, and Kenyetta Jones-Sherrod, step-grandchildren; Kimberly Stewart-Nooks and Tebresha Vanerson, great-grandchildren; Micah Jones, Carnell “Jr.” Sherrod, Domekia Wilson, Jarrean McInnis, and Kanitria (Reginald) Cooper, Lequisha Mason, Derwin Young, II, Joshua, Porsha, and Quinton Robinson, Willie Clay, Dontye, Jasen LaRoy, Jordan S.
