James Winston

On Wednesday, July 22, 2026 at 12:34 p. m. at his home in Canton, MS, our Heavenly Father called one of his children home. James Edward Winston transitioned from this earthly life to eternal life.

April 12, 1960, James Edward Winston was born to B.C. Winston and Barbara Pheal. At an early age, James accepted Christ under the leadership of Pastor James Griffin and later became a member of Southern Hill Missionary Baptist Church.

James attended Rogers High School in Canton, Mississippi, during the 1970s. He went on to build a strong work ethic throughout his life, dedicating several years of service to the Mississippi State Hospital (Whitfield) in Rankin County. He later worked for Mississippi Van Lines Trucking, where he faithfully served for eleven years.

He dearly loved his dog Ginger and found great joy in spending time with her. He enjoyed sitting on the porch with his legs crossed, taking in the simple pleasures of life. He took great pride in his car, although he could no longer drive it as he once did, he didn’t want anyone else behind the wheel, and he faithfully washed it three times a week. He also loved watching WWE Wrestling and relaxing with his favorite soda, Dr Pepper.

In 1979, he welcomed his first son, Kenyouth Morris, and in 1980, he welcomed his first daughter, Tawonda Mack. He took great pride in raising his children and was a loving and devoted father.

In 2009, he met Lynda Floyd, who would become the love of his life. They were united in marriage on June 12th in 2010 at Pilgrim Rest Church in Canton, MS, and shared 16 wonderful years of love, faith, and companionship together.

James leaves to cherish his precious memories his loving and devoted wife, Lynda Floyd; one son, Kenyouth Morris (“Blue”) of Canton, MS; one daughter, Tawonda Mack (“Wonda”) of Canton, MS; one bonus son, Rico Scott; one bonus daughter, Lakeisha Morris; and a special grandson, Logan Scott of Canton, MS, whom he lovingly raised as his own, his loving mother, Barbara Pheal of Canton, MS; one sister, Diane (Tommie) Coleman of Canton, MS; one brother, Duffery Pheally of Canton, MS; a special nephew Robert Mack and a special niece Tiara Pheal; ten grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, friends, and two special childhood friends, Vincent Carroll and Ronnie Lewis. He was preceded in death by his dad B.C. Winston, his grandmother Mable Powell, his stepfather Duffery Pill, his siblings Evelyn Peel- Watts, Thomas Powell, and Johnette Pheal-Archie. He will be greatly missed by everyone who was blessed to have experienced and known his kind spirit.

James’ life was a testament to faith, love, devotion, compassion, and selfless service to others. His legacy will forever be cherished by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing and loving him. Though he will be deeply missed, his memory will live on in the hearts of those whose lives he touched.
