Jimmy Crowell was born on December 14, 1962, in Bolton, Mississippi, to the late Estella Butler- Crowell and Clyde Shay. Jimmy later moved to Clinton, Mississippi, where he spent his formative years and received his early education. Jimmy attended Sumner Hill High School, where he graduated from, class of 1981 (Sumner Hill Hornets) with pride and purpose. His interest in working with his hands and solving problems led him to pursue an Associate Degree in Electrical Studies at Hinds Community College (1983), launching what would become a successful and fulfilling career in the electrical trade.
From a young age, Jimmy lived a life grounded in Faith. He became a member of Holy Ghost Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend Alexander Kirkwood, where he humbly served on the Usher Board. His love for the Lord and for serving others remained constant throughout his life.
After completing his studies, Jimmy relocated to Dallas, Texas in 1987, where he advanced his career as a professional electrician/journeyman. He was employed for over 30 years by Faith Technology, a role that allowed him to travel and do the work he loved. Whether in a bustling city or quiet town, Jimmy found purpose in his trade, using his skills to light up life both literally and figuratively.
While in Dallas, Jimmy continued his spiritual journey, becoming a dedicated member of Mount Tabor Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend Stephen F. Nash. Once again, he served faithfully on the Usher Board, Male Chorus and Junior Deacon, offering his time and presence in service to others. Before leaving Dallas, Jimmy joined Friendship West Missionary Baptist Church lead by Dr. Fredrick D. Haynes where he was an active member. After returning to Mississippi due to his illness, Jimmy rededicated his life to Holy Ghost Missionary Baptist Church, Clinton MS.
Jimmy’s calm demeanor, quiet wit, and strong sense of family defined his presence. He was a man who enjoyed the simple pleasures of life, none more so than fishing and hunting. Whether on the banks of a peaceful lake or tucked away at a hidden spot, Jimmy could often be found casting his line, enjoying the stillness of the water and the thrill of the catch. It was in these moments that his love for nature and solitude shone most brightly.
A proud and passionate supporter of the San Francisco 49ers, Jimmy never missed a chance to cheer on his team. Win or lose, he was loyal through and through—a true fan who wore his colors with pride.
Jimmy returned to Mississippi later in life as his health began to decline. Surrounded by the love of his family, he transitioned peacefully, leaving behind a wealth of memories that will be forever treasured.
Jimmy leaves behind a loving and devoted family who will miss him dearly: three beloved brothers, Thomas Earl Butler (Belinda) of Bolton, MS, Henry Earl (Terrie) Butler of Clinton MS and his twin brother Johnny Lee Crowell (Tracy) of Jackson, MS; four devoted sisters, Rosetta Sharif of Chicago, Illinois, Dianna Donaldson (Nathaniel) of Bolton, MS, Tina Clemmons of Bolton, MS; and Stephanie Crowell-Roberts (Alvin) of DeSoto, Texas; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, church family, and countless friends and coworkers whose lives were made better by knowing him.
He was preceded in death by one sister Dorthy Crowell- Donaldson, whose spirit he now joins in eternal rest.
