Viereather Kent

Sister Viereather Freeman Kent was born on October 12, 1947, in Raymond, Mississippi, to Eddie Freeman Jr. and Minnie Scott Freeman. She grew up attending Carver Middle School in Raymond and later Sumner Hill Junior High in Clinton, finding her faith at an early age at Belmont M.B. Church. She served faithfully until the time of her passing.

She was known throughout her community as someone with an open door and an even more open heart. Whether you needed a meal, help with anything, or just someone to talk to, Viereather was always there.

Her greatest joy came from her family. She was the kind of mother who made everything better and the grandmother who always had time for hugs, stories, and maybe an extra serving of macaroni or two. Her kitchen was the heart of family gatherings, filled with the warmth of her cooking and her laughter.

Though life brought heartache with the loss of her parents Eddie and Minnie Freeman, her sisters Eula Mae, Eddie Mae, Minnie Mae, and Lucy Mae Spencer, and her brother Sammie Lee Spencer, Viereather's faith and love for her family never wavered.

She leaves behind a beautiful legacy through her devoted son, Larry (LaSaundra) Kent of Byram, and her loving daughter, JoAnn Kent of Raymond. Her memory lives on through five beloved grandchildren: Antonio Kent of Clinton, Amos Kent of Topeka, Kansas, Kendrick (Keatra) Kent of Clinton, Madison Kent of Byram, and Iman (Nathan) Mason of Brandon. She was also blessed with five treasured great-grandchildren: A’zyrion, A’zyiriah, and A’zyiriel, all of Topeka, Kansas, and Kaylor and Kade Kent of Clinton, Mississippi. She is survived by four dear siblings: Bessie (James) Banger, Eddie (Lynn) Freeman III of Raymond, Shirley (E.L.) Ward of Brandon, and Ruby Percy (Benard) Terry of Jackson, along with Lou Gene Freeman of Raymond. She also leaves to cherish her memory one beloved aunt, Ernestine Young of Raymond, and a host of adoring nieces, nephews.

Viereather was more than just a faithful church member or loving family woman – she was the person who made everyone feel loved and welcome. Her life reminds us that the greatest gift we can give is simply caring for one another, and that love lives on in every kindness we show.
