Walter Buckley

On Friday, May 16, 2025, Walter D Buckley, lovingly referred to as Walter D and Buck, a loving father to five daughters, a brother, a cousin and friend, passed away at age 84 in Jackson, Mississippi.

Walter was born in Clinton, Mississippi to the late Margaret Johnson Forbes and the late Reverend M. Belton Buckley. He was married to the loving and devoted Shirley Ruth Haley until her passing in 2019. He attended Hinds County schools. He was a devoted member and deacon of Wells Grove M. B. Church for over 50 years. Additionally, he was a member of the Wells Grove Male Chorus and Mount Hood Male Chorus.

He had two daughters, Viveca Buckley who preceded him in death and Opal Buckley. He had five bonus daughters, Trina McNair, Tina Haley, Cathyn Haley, Latarsha Haley and Kim Haley (who preceded him in death).

He is survived by two brothers, Frank Forbes and George Buckley and sisters - Marie Chapel, Ada Forbes, Bobbie Jean Forbes, Mamie Forbes, Dorothy Buckley, Celestine Buckley and Sarah Jarrett. He is also survived by grandchildren: Trystyn Buckley, Alexis Foster, Shardae Mardin, Johann Haley, Laquita Mardin, Bernard Alexander, Janika Alexander, Christopher Draper, Alvin Haley, Cira Williams, Ebony Williams and a host of family and friends.

He was preceded in death by five brothers - Jesse Forbes Jr., Ernest Forbes, Leon Forbes, Glen Forbes, and Samuel Buckley and a sister, Vonnie Gentry.
