Dorothee Dozier

d. October 26, 2018

Dorothee Ruth Johnson Dozier was born in Hinds County on September 20, 1951 to Mr. Lawyer Berry and Ruth Johnson, both of whom preceded her in death.

Dorothee joined Old Mt. Zion M.B. Church at an early age and later reunited with her church family. She attended school at Carver Junior High and graduated high school from Sumner Hill. After graduation she moved to Puerto Rico to care for her brother’s children. It was there she met and married Robert Dozier Sr. and to that union one child was born, Robert “Sonny” Dozier.

She moved to New York in the 70’s and while living there she worked as a school crossing guard and dietary aid. She returned to Jackson, MS in the 80’s and worked in the healthcare field. Years later she returned home to Raymond, MS to assist in caring for her mother, Granny Ruth and her sister, Minnie Cine. Dorothee always enjoyed caring for others and spent many years babysitting children from near and far. She considered herself to be the honorary grandmother for the community.

On Friday, October 26, 2018 the Lord called her home.

Five brothers and one sister preceded her in death, James (Etta) Johnson; Arthur L. Johnson; Lonnie Johnson; Willie E. (Minnie) Johnson; George (Betty) Johnson and Minnie Matthews. Her beloved nephew, Larry “Milton” Johnson also preceded her in death.

She leaves to cherish her memories her son, Robert “Sonny” (Lanita) Dozier and four treasured grandchildren, Jasmine, Monique, Abraham and Robert, Richmond, TX; her sister Mary (Clarence) Hines, Staten Island, NY; two brothers and five sisters who reside in Michigan and Florida and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
