Gregory Lee Weatherspoon was born to the late Henry “Ted” Weatherspoon and the late Frankie Mae Summerville Weatherspoon on April 1, 1957 in Oak Ridge, TN.
After the passing of his mother and father, Gregory and his siblings were raised by his uncle, the late M. D. Weatherspoon, and his aunt, the late Iciphine Weatherspoon in Meadville, MS.
Gregory accepted Christ at an early age, where he attended New Bethel Baptist Church in Meadville, MS.
Gregory attended Franklin High School. Upon graduating high school he served four years in the U. S. Army.
Later in life he moved to Jackson, MS where he met and married the love of his life, Brenda Hinkle. He was a loving and caring father. He served as a deacon at Greater Clark Street Baptist Church and he sang in the male choir and worked I other ministries in the church he departed this life.
Gregory worked for 30 years in the security field. He retired from Regions Security Engineers, Inc.
Gregory departed this life at home on Monday, September 13, 2021 at 6 a.m. He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Henry and Frankie Mae Weatherspoon; uncle and aunt, M. D. and Iciphine Weatherspoon; sister, Doris Weatherspoon; and his twin brother, Jeffery L. Weatherspoon.
He leaves to cherish is memories: his loving wife, Brenda Faye Weatherspoon of Jackson, MS; sons, Jimmie L. Woods, III of Jackson, MS and Christopher J. Woods (Whitney) of Byram, MS; daughters, Christina A. Woods of Jackson, MS and Valarie N. Summerall of Jackson, MS; two grandsons, Christopher J. Woods, Jr. and Christian E. Woods of Jackson, MS; two granddaughters, Ashanti A. Woods and Ma’Kya A. Woods of Jackson, MS; two sisters, Dorothy Holmes of Memphis, TN and Deloris Anderson of Knoxville, TN; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
